I've been getting some breakthrough bleeding on my pill, ortho tricyclen lo, which I've been on for about a month. It's getting quite annoying, and I have a friend who is on seasonale and when she had breakthrough bleeding her doctor told her to double up on the pill-take twice the dose, i.e. two pills a day. It worked for her in like 5 days-the bleeding stopped. Would this work for me too?

doubling up is what Dr.s usually try first, and it does usually work, however not always and ortho tricyclen lo can have some bad side effects so talk with your Dr first. you should be able to just call and ask the nurse, she will then talk with the Dr and let you know for sure.

I once tried taking two pills at once to stop the bleeding, and that only caused 3 straight months of bleeding. Now, I can't be sure that doubling up is exactly what caused it, but I'm pretty sure it didn't help. Just take your final pills, have your withdrawl bleeding and see how the next month turns out. It can take your body 3-6 months to get used to the pills and for breakthrough bleeding to stop. If it doesn't stop after 6 months, let your doctor know that you need to be on a different pill.

First talk to your doctor. I never had much luck with ortho tricyclen lo. I always had that problem. Soon as I changed, everything was good. I have been on the other for over a year with no problems.

That may help but most importantly you need to consult your Doctor before you change your medication dosage on any drug.
I've never heard of anyone doubling up on their ortho tricyclen or any birth control pill so be careful.
Talk to your Doc and Best Wishes!

I had the same problem after a couple of weeks my body adjusted and it stopped, this is common especially with low dose pills. It usually just takes a while for you to adjust. But if you really wan to double up that like everybody else said, I'd probably at least call and ask if that's okay with that particular med. Its really annoying, I know, hope everything works out soon.

It might work for you too, but you should call the doctor's nurse and ask if it's ok for YOU with your medication.

Never seek medical advice from the internet. See your doc, honey.
