Catholics to not pray to mary that is another thing uninformed people are saying. We pray and ask mary and other saints to pray for us as you would ask a friend pray for you. Also, we confess to a priest as our "middle man" to god. If someone tells you different they are uninformed.

Uninformed answering is unfortunately rampant on Answers, it's not limited to religion. I would think that religious questions are more susceptible to it because so many people truly beleive that the misinformation they were taught is the truth.

My condolences.

based on 8 years of Catholic school, here goes: 1. no 2. the church would ask the Methodist to allow the children to be raised as Catholics 3. yes, same rules as answer #2 4. yes, the Catholic church allow only 1 Catholic marriage /person, possibly more depending on complex annulment rules that I don't understand. Marriages in other churches don't count against the 1 you're allowed 5. yes, a Catholic relative could hold your funeral in a Catholic church. If neither you nor any relatives are Catholic it is hard to imagine wanting a catholic service but it's probably possible 6. Go to any christian congregation and ask for a christening. The Catholic church will encourage but not require the parents to be christened. I don't know other christian groups' requirements Good questions, keep asking

Catholics follow MANY things which are not scripture but "church tradition." Often the traditions are actually OPPOSED to scripture, something no TRUE Christian SHOULD be following. TRUE Christians SHOULD BE going to scripture for answers, NOT to the teachings of men. If someone gives you an answer to a Bible or Christianity question that is not found in the Bible or at the very least in full compliance with the Bible, look elsewhere for your answers. - If an answer conflicts with scripture, the answer is wrong.

... Just a few "hard facts" as requested. If you are interested in TRUTH, there are many more:

Scripture describes EVERY CHRISTIAN as a "saint."
Acts 9:13 “Lord,” Ananias answered, “I have heard many reports about this man and all the harm he has done to your saints in Jerusalem.
Romans 1:7 To all in Rome who are loved by God and called to be saints: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
15:25 Now, however, I am on my way to Jerusalem in the service of the saints there.
31 Pray that I may be rescued from the unbelievers in Judea and that my service in Jerusalem may be acceptable to the saints there, - The first 4 times a specific form of the Greek word translated "saint" is used in the New Testament.

The Biblical directive is to confess to one another, NOT a specially designated person:
James 5:16 So admit to one another that you have sinned. Pray for one another so that you might be healed. The prayer of a godly person is powerful. It makes things happen.

EVERY Christian IS a priest:
Revelation 1:6 He has made us members of his royal family. He has made us priests who serve his God and Father. Give him glory and power for ever and ever! Amen.
1Peter 2:9 But God chose you to be his people. You are royal priests. You are a holy nation. You are a people who belong to God. All of this is so that you can sing his praises. He brought you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

I've seen this too. It's crazy. Catholics are the ORIGINAL Christians! And were the only Christians for well over 1000 years, until the Protestant Reformation began with Martin Luther. I think it's just ignorance and prejudiced, really. I'm not sure where the people that believe Catholics "worship saints" and are not Christian get their information, but it's not from any history or religion book. BTW, I'm not a Catholic, so my opinion is not biased.
The bottom line: if you believe in Christ, you are a CHRISTIAN! How can an actual Catholic believe he is not a Christian...!!???

I am amazed at how little people know about Catholicism.

I will assume that you are refering to Roman Catholicism and not Orthodox Catholicism.

People who do not consider Catholics as Christians are often uninformed people with a strong fundamentalist Christian background. However, many Christian religions (and Catholics themselves) refer to Catholics as Christians. And rightly so.

No, Catholics do not pray to Mary or the saints. Although I can see why people who are unfamiliar with Catholicism might think that way. They should do some in depth research on Catholicism and learn what Catholics really do think about Mary, saints, etc.

Any church that believes in Christianity is Christian. I've found the only differences are in how that particular church operates, specific beliefs and ideals all based on a singular God. Eg. I went to the United church and the Pentecostal church when I was young. Both churches used the King James version of the Bible but they both had different ideals; at that time the United church was accepting woman ministers but the Pentecostals thought that absurd.
Christians all worship the same God regardless of the church they belong to, why can't they all just get along?

In personal view, Catholic is Christians, Protestant are Christians, Eastern Christianity are Christians.

They follows the teaching of Christ, they read from the bible. In fact, Catholic are the original Christians, and in personal view the most organised Christian organisation.

Protestants like Anglicans, Methodists, Baptists, Charismatics, etc etc does not come after 1500 years later ..... when King Henry VIII wanted to annul his marriage with Catherine of Aragon

Well, if you're not a Christian, all those churches with the crosses on the top and the New Testament inside sure look a lot alike.

So as far as I'm concerned, one of them is as Christian as the next. I suppose that since the Roman Catholic church is the oldest, and has the Pope and all, I'd vote for that one. It's the original.

Don't feel bad. These fundamentalist Christians say that Mormons aren't Christians either. They also say that Episcopalians aren't Christians(You know, they're the ones who ordained a gay bishop. That gets 'em booted out of the Christian club.) They also say that Jehovah's Witnesses are not Christians. And of course they say that any person of any denomination----Lutheran, Methodist, Eastern Orthodox, Presbyterian, whatever----is not a Christian if he believes in evolution.

So, bottom line, by the time these people finish pronouncing who's a Christian and who isn't, there just aren't too many Christians left.

You gotta love the way these people call other people's faith a cult, the way that guy does in his answer here. Buddhists are a cult, god ignores their prayers. God ignores the prayers of the religious Jew. God ignores the Catholic's prayers. God ignores the Mormon's prayers. And then these dimwit fundamentalists wonder why people challenge them here.

Catholics are not christian because they have certain rites they must complete to be allowed salvation (confirmation, communion, confession). Christians on the other hand just have to except jesus as their lord and are thus saved.
You need to trust in Jesus alone for the forgiveness of their sins and not the Catholic sacraments to be a true christian.

By the way, i am a catholic and always have been.
