They figure no one will take the time to read them.
That's the same reason protestants like to claim to understand the TRUE meaning of certain Greek and Hebrew words and phrases from scripture.
Almost nobody will take the time to check them on it, so they get away with foisting their errors on a lazy and unsuspecting populace.
If they would simply admit that they have no divine authority whatsoever for what they do or teach, and admit that they made everything up from scratch, directly in opposition to the authentic and God inspired teachings of the one, true and Catholic church, at least people would be able to make an informed decision.
