For kids and teenagers. And things that won't take too much time. i.e. not something that'll take all day.

The Griffith Observatory is a nice couple hour trip. The observatory has just finished a several year 90 million dollar renovation. Its the same building that was featured in the 1950's James Dean movie "Rebel Without a Cause." It now has state of the art science exhibits that are fun for kids and adults alike. Because its so popular they've set up a reservation system, so its never over capacity. Reservations range from free to 8 dollars depending on which day you go and which parking lot you catch the shuttle from. Go to their website here to learn more http://www.griffithobs.org/ .

In addition Griffith park also has a Zoo along with a few other attractions.

The Subway is a great thing to do with older kids. Buy an all day pass for $3.00 and you can do many small things all day. Start at Universal City and go to City Walk. There you can walk around a small city, take in a meal, outdoors concert (varies by day), window shop. Get back on and the very next exit is Hollywood. You can take pictures with the "STARS", street performers, see the Chinese Theatre, visit Highland Hollywood and the Kodak theatre. Next you can go to the Disney Hall and take a stroll through their amazing gardens for free. Next you can go to Union Station. A classic station with great architecture and a nice rose garden. Walk across the street to Alvero Street and walk through the oldest standing house in Los Angeles, take in some authentic Mexican cuisine, shop the street vendors and listen to great mariachi bands. If you still need more you can take the gold line one exit and go to China Town. The gold line continues to Pasadena. The blue line goes to Long Beach.

There is so much to see and do. You can make it a half day or a weekend. Los Angeles is full of unique experiences for kids.

Check out www.mta.net for all the lines and destinations along there paths.
