A blood clot in the brain is called a stroke, and a stroke almost always causes some part of the brain to stop functioning. Depending on what part of the brain is affected, a person may any one or combination of the these functions: speech, memory, taste, smell, hearing, sight, or experience paralysis in parts of the body.

Clots can be removed from the brain by surgery, but that's the last choice. Clots are usually broken down by anticoagulants if possible.
