you should be able to keep most vegetables at room temp (peppers, mushrooms, onions, etc)...I usually like to cook some meat which you can buy any day you want to cook, then fry the meat, add veggies and spices, and you have a good healthy dinner. Some other foods good for one person are tacos, burritos, pasta, soups......the list goes on...good luck.

To keep from throwing food away since you have no way of refrigerating it....figure out how much you can eat of each type food so when you cook it there will be no leftovers.
You can also make some raw meals. Nuts are always good to have on hand plus rice. So all you need would be a few vegetables from a market that sells each item by the piece instead of a big bag.
What you can have on hand is :
potatoes
onions
carrots
head of cabbage
broccoli
If you buy a small amount of these you can cook on your stove top or in the oven.
Buy some fruits and veggies in cans that are in the smallest sizes so you eat them once and then toss the can out! No leftovers..
dehydrated foods..anything you add water to that brings it back to life..you can go to health food stores they have lots of things you store in jars and use as needed
If you want to buy fresh meat just buy ONLY what you can eat at one time. Place the meat in a baking dish and add 2 med. potatoes, 2 carrots and 1 onion around it. Pour about 1 and 1/2 cup water ,dash of salt and pepper, some garlic cut small and bake it for about 1 hour at 350 degrees until tender. Test with a fork if it comes out easy it's done. cover this with foil for the first 35 minutes then uncover to finish so it's brown.
Take a couple apples and wash them cut in half and remove the seeds. Sprinkle with cinnamon, nutmeg and sugar. Spoon into a baking pan add enough water to cover the bottom of the pan.
Place in oven along with the meat and vegetables.
This way you get the main course with the dessert all prepared in the oven. You can buy ready made bread to go with your dinner and make some tea on top of the stove.

Ok here's a recipe to make you just have to buy a boneless, skinless chicken breast the day you're going to make it.
Easy chicken and rice
I boneless, skinless chicken breast
I can chicken broth
1/2 cup uncooked long grain rice-not instant (I use Riceland brand)
salt and pepper
dash of basil
dash of rosemary
dump rice into small casserole dish. add broth rosemary, basil, salt and pepper. give it a stir. Season chicken breast with salt and pepper. You can also give it just a dash of rosemary and basil. Place on top of rice. Don't worry if water almost covers chicken. Cover and bake at 375 degrees for at least 30 mins or until rice is done and chicken juices run clear.
I used to make this all the time when I was single. Now I make it on a regular basis because the kids love it.
Also, have you tried making recipes that call for chicken using canned chicken? No need for refrigeration there.

Buy a cooler, then you can keep some things. Alot of people have said buy just enough meat for one meal but I'd like to see them do it. You can buy one steak but it's usually at least a pound and the smallest package of hamburger is a pound. You CAN'T buy one chicken breast, one pork chop, one sausage etc.
Other than that, there are quite a few things in cans and sealed pouches now days-chicken,tuna steaks, salmon steaks. Most fresh produce does fine for a few days at room temp. Good luck to you.

Try having salads, they are easy to prepare and it is good for you or maybe buy a steak and make gravy, get you a few whole potatoes, the ones in the can or the frozen ones work well also, cook them and have mashed potatoes. Get you a half pound of ground beef, a can of manwhich, and maybe some french fries. Grill you some shrimps for your salad, the possibilities are endless when there is only one person to feed.....Enjoy
