i applied for a cna class that was offered thru a nursing home in the newspaper and i got called in for an interview and was told there are 50-60 applicants, so they would do group interviews then individual interviews, what does that mean? are they trying to eliminate some people since there are so many?

there are countless horror stories about people who abuse elderly people in nursing homes (I have been in the field for 22 years). they want to be assured that people who are going to care for someones grandma are truly committed to doing just that. not only do you have to work long hard hours, but some of the little confused ones may hit(they don't understand where they are and are scared). some people also get into the profession (this is a commitment) thinking of it as just another job (like McDonald's), but it is not. also, they are not only training you, but you will be working on their residents in the "clinical" portion of your classes. it is a requirement of being certified. they don't want to waste your time and theirs on someone who will find that it is not their thing, and just drop out. there is a limit on most class sizes, so they want to pick the most committed individuals. most nursing schools also require CNA training. they know those people will be committed, as they are investing more than a 6 week period into this. hope this helps.

they need to see how many people will end up leaving and how many will really want to stay ! And then there will be less to interview at the end of the group ones, i would say. because they know alot of them will leave and they need to interview only the serious ones individually !

maybe they want people to know what the job actually is about. That you will have to shower 25 elderly people in 1 hour. That they will work you to death and expect you to be happy about it. If you call in sick or take a flipping holiday off they will give you a guilt trip to know end. They basically want to know who they can push around and get the most work out of for the least amount of money, and who is stupid that they can blame when they are inspected.

it sounds like they have a limit , and instead of doing it as first to apply get in , they are interviewing and eliminating people they think are unsatisfactory.

good luck with the interviews.
