I have recently found out that my ex-boyfriend broke his neck in a car accident and is now in a wheel chair. We didn't part on the best of terms, and needless to say, he did it to himself by driving drunk. It still makes me gasp that he is actually paralyzed now, because the last time I saw him he was fine .Anyway, I was wondering what kind of life he may have after something like that? I haven't ever known anyone that was paralyzed. Thanks for your help.

Just to clarify, we broke up WAY before his accident.

It largely depends on your bf's level of paralysis, and where the damage was done. My mother is paraplegic too, and life is he*l.
She's basically dead weight from her arm-pits down. No control over bowels or anything else. If you b/f still has control over that bodily function its a lot better, but still he faces a life of difficulty. Even with the passing of the laws of Americans with Diabilities Act, there are so many places he will have restricted or no access. If he is able to drive with use of hand controls, he will at least be mobile. If you intend to remain his g/f, he will need someone with a strong support system and constitution. And not just physically, but emotional and mental strength too. You might have to help him when his wheelchair gets caught or jammed in a doorway, and any number of other things we don't even think about. Reaching somethig on the kitchen stove when you can't see over the edge of the hot pots. Reaching items that too high, or too low, that he would tumble out of the chair if he leaned over too far. You learn to look at things in a whole different way. Like how many vechicles with no handicap tags are parked in the zones clearly labeled for those with disabilities.
Please don't feel like he's paying for his own weakness for driving drunk... no one should have to pay like that.

A paralegic can drive a car, play sports, and led a fullfilling life.
Just look at a wheelchair as a means of transport.
If he broke his neck he would be quadaplegic and it depends on how high up the damage is. If it low down in the neck he could play murderball, or table tennis.
Ever way they can still enjoy movies, laughing, commutication and music ect.
If you will like to read a book on quad "Joni"

I know that it must be extremely tough for him. There will always be that depression, and the hope that he would walk again. There are ways to get aroud these things though...being there for him, and letting him know you're here to help will make it easier for him because he'll feel the comfort and care that comes from good deeds like that.
