then you're confusing the term, empathy is when you do not connect your self with the emotions or feelings per se,meaning that what you are actually feeling is sympathy ,

First you must know what is the real compassion.
There is no question of compassionate. Where is compassion? He has taken this material body. He has to suffer. What is, your compassion will help him?
That first of all you understand. You have to die. If I think, "Oh, you should not die," so what your compassion will help? we have to die. Then what is the use of this compassion? If you give him something that he will not die, that is real compassion.
You feel, but what is the meaning of that feeling? You cannot do anything.
So this kind of compassion is all useless. It is wasted.
The actual compassion formula, is to begins with an understanding of the difference between the actual self and the temporary body.
Real interest they have forgotten. The superficial interest. The same example can be given. Just like if you simply soap your shirt and coat and do not take care of your real body, or do not feed your body, then how long we shall exist?
If a man is drowning. Another man come, that "I shall save this man." So he jump on the water, and when coming out of the water he bring the shirt and coat: "Now I have saved the man." The so-called service, or any service which is going on, that is serving the shirt and coat( the material body). Nobody is serving the soul. That is the mistake of modern civilization. There are many hospitals to cure the bodily diseases, but there is no hospital to cure the disease of the soul.
We should not act as if I were just this body. We should learn what it means to be a spirit soul. And what it means to act as a spirit soul." Only then can we have real compassion and help others.

Do you mean you feel the physical pain of others or that you can experience the same emotions? Sorry, this is something I need to know before I answer.
I suppose if you can feel the emotions of a person but in a detached way then you could explain to them what it is they're feeling because believe it or not, people often are really confused as to what they're truly feeling.
Being able to experience it from an uninvolved, objective standpoint could be very helpful.
As for feeling physical pain of others, I don't know... I guess you could do the same thing as with the emotions but it seems like it'd be harder as physical pain makes it a bit harder to concentrate.

I think that empathy is a term used more these days than in days past. The word people used to use is compassion.
But let's say that you do have this gift. What are you feeling when someone has just lost their job, and are finding it difficult to come up with rent? Your gift would make you think that you are worried, hopeless, distressed and alone.
What to do with that? Give hope. Strengthen their resolve to see this hardship through. Empower them to see the other side of things. I have an advantage because I have someone to trust. And that is Jesus Christ who promised me certain things. And I will trust him for what he said. If you have him in your life, he will lead you to the next thing to do. He does it for me.

I don't know if you mean this literally or figuratively, but either way, it's a great gift. If you feel others' pain, you know what they're going through. You understand. Most of the time, that's all a hurting person needs: Someone who understands. It's a great comfort.

Most of us who have empathy become helpers in some way, such as the fields of mental health, medicine, ministry. Take the Myers-Briggs Test. I would think that you are an NF type. They make the best psychotherapist and Priest. I was a Psychotherapist.

Empathy mainly refers to emotional pain. Instead of just understanding how a person feels, you actually feel their emotional anguish/joy etc. I don't really think there is anything you can do with it, like a magic power. Get back to me when you can fly. Now that's something that would be handy.

The best way to use a gift like that is to place it in the LORD's care and to ask him to guide you in using it, b/c feeling others pain itself can be a pain, b/c not all people even really want to be helped. however, one of the greatest things about Jesus is he told felt our pain and was moved with Compassion for our sakes and it guided him through his ministry.

I believe that this is the most important quality a person can posess. If eveyone had empathy, there would never be another crime committed. There would be no more starving people or homeless families on the street.
God bless you.

A million different ways. I'm sure you know all the careers like counselor, psychiatrist, psychologist etc etc. Even if you decide to dig ditches you can use empathy everyday to comfort people that need comforting.

If your are a Christian and you are able to empathize with others then compassion can be release through you. When a Christian is compassionate towards others suffering, he is a vessel by which the Holy Spirit can move. When Jesus Christ went about healing people He did it with compassion.
