Ok i just got a four year old shihtzu and i need to know what to do and when to do it. she is a little shy because we got her from my sister and she kicked her around (not like across the room) because she was trying to deal with 2 kids and was getting frustrated and the dog would be in the way. Well, they didn't really care about the dog so we took her. She's a good dog and everything but i want her to be perfect. Her coat isn't exactly show quality simply because it is very curly. Anyways she is housetrained and will sometimes obey sit and that is about it. I need Answers.

What do you mean by perfect? Is it pureblood? These dogs need a lot of attention when it comes to taking care of the fur. Our shihtzu usually gets trimmed short, so it looks adorable and we don't really need to worry about tangles. If you want to keep it the traditional way, you have to give him a lot of baths with a good quality shampoo. I think a good way to maintain the soft feel is to spray the damp fur with a conditioner bottle and then brush it while blow-drying. Don't use combs. Like any pet dog, you must reassure that you are the boss of the shihtzu. Teach discipline, set rules. It takes patience and determination, but don't give up because the results will be worth it. Once you gain the trust of a shihtzu, they will prove loyalty and become evidently loving in the most cutest gestures that will warm your heart.

Shih Tzus are great little dogs - it may take your dog a while to get over the trauma of being kicked though.

Good luck with her.
