the what if question is tough~but do make sure u get to the class you want to sign up for early cause my girls was going to sign up and showed up on the second day and the class was full in the first twenty minutes it was open for enrollment, either on computer or phone called in, the books are head games allot of places say your going to get a certain book and they have wrong books used and they don't give you your money back and the teachers really press the facts that those who show up with out are made a fools of in class, and new books that have driven kids mad with little or no information in them that is going to be of any use drives them crazy, be certain of the books u want and what is sold to u is the same ones u need, this is suspect of book hustlers in those offices that prey on ignorance

Are you talking about textbooks for college? My preferred method is 1) determine if the book is even needed (I have some where they weren't) 2) go to the bookstore and get the prices and the ISBN 3) go to half.com and plug in said ISBN's and see if you can get the books cheaper. (The ISBN will make sure you get the correct edition.)

I only buy second-hand books now for university. My book list was $440, and I got that down to $240 - same editions, perfect quality.

Generally I aim to get ~60% of the new price or better.

are you talking about textbooks for school? If so...
find them on amazon.com if you can, i got one of my textbooks for a dollar when it would have normally cost about 50.. and go to used bookstores instead of buying them new.. you'll still get ripped off, but not as much!
