Unconditional love is when you love someone so much that you want them to be happy no matter what, even if their happiness means that maybe they won't end up with you, or you will love them even if they might do some things you don't approve of, etc. Or it can be the love a parent should have for their child, caring for them no matter what.

the only "unconditional" love that I know of is the love pets give us. Unconditional usually means to overlook or be oblivious to the faults of others. I don't know that that can be done in these times. Another word comes to mind...it's "toleration" but that isn't always linked to love.

When it comes to love, there are certain things that are sure deal breakers and each person has them with in themselves.
What makes love unconditional is when each party utilizes the right to respect the other at all times and be able to use that right to walk away from the other without the other person trespassing on those rights through manipulation, revenge or any other malicious acts ,but neither party utilizes those freedoms.

Truly loving someone is giving them the freedom to love you or not
Truly loving yourself is choosing to be someone who uses that freedom to love you

That you will stand by the person and continue to love them no matter what but included in that love is to always be honest and let them know when they are over the line or stepping on your toes.

You stand by that person not only in the good times, but in the bad times too. This doesn't mean you throw your life away and tolerate people who are irresponsible though.
