XP...legal...I have three different copies for 3 of my computers and then one copy of Windows 98 on another. I am not upgrading to Vista though...XP works fine and will be supported for at least another few years. (MS just trying to make big money) and besides that I don't like most of the new fangeled features.

2000 and XP. My laptop is a Pentium III, so I have to use 2000 on it. XP on everything else, soon, Vista Basic for my Desktops. (I don't care about Aero.) All of the legal. There's no excuse for piracy. Setting more expensive prices or sitting on copyrights and not releasing things into the Public Domain proves that companies are jerks, but it's their right to be.

Why use WINDOWS at all when there are so many reliable free operating systems. My favorite is UBUNTU - http://www.ubuntu.com
