Thank God.. but my son has only had scarlet fever to be the most serious thus this far. That scared me alot since his fever was at 104 most of the time, I was afraid he would have a seizure. He did fall and bust his face in the bath tub.. that was awful. I so freaked out because of all the blood. I called the ER and asked if we should bring him in and they told me that by the time I got there he would be ok. Which would have been true.. he was finished bleeding in 10 mins and his little lip swoll up. Otherwise I am sure there will be more along the way, I mean he is a boy and I have another boy coming in April.

My son was 7 weeks premature and born with Hyline Membrane Syndrome...which means that his lungs were not developed enough and he was not breathing properly. The first 24 hours of his life he spent under an oxygen hood, until a bubble of air formed around his heart. After this, he was placed on a ventilator and had to be life-flighted to Calgary...in a blizzard...and the airplane couldn't land, so they drove hiim in an ambulance. A 3-hour trip took 7. The good news is that today he's a healthy little boy, with minor asthma and no visible heart problems. He is a miracle.

Croupe! (is that how you spell it?) My children had it bad in the winter of 2005. I took them both to the emergency room one evening because their lips were turning blue and they were acting like they were just laying around and having trouble breathing, coughing a lot. It was such a bad case that they both had to have steroid shots in the thighs to break it up so they could breathe and get over it. It had nearly turned into pneumonia. That was the scariest thing and I am still paying on that bill.

For my youngest it would be a bladder infection she had at about 4 months. She was lethargic, sooo hot, and would not eat. I didn't know what the problem was. All I knew was that it was new to me and she needed a doctor. For my son it was when he got a strep infection in his penis and I found out just how bad that can be. YIKES!! I don't think the illnesses were as bad as when I had to take my daughter to get 18 stitches in her forehead (it was down to her skull and they actually removed a fragment of bone). She was bleeding everywhere. That was terrible.

My daughter has asthma. It may not seem like much but when she gets worked up and can't stop coughing, then vomits from coughing so much. That to me is the scariest thing. We haven't had an attack since November 2006, knock on wood. But for me, my own experience, asthma

Salmonella blood poisoning. My daughter had just turned three and was still very bad about putting her hands in her mouth. My daughter and her older brother had been in the back yard playing with lizards. The doctors said what happened was she had gotten a mild salmonella infection from the lizards but it didn't go away, it got worse until it eventually worked into her bloodstream. She was the only one who got ill so they ruled out cross contamination or undercooked food.
