My dog has a mysteriously "limp" tail. her long tail seems to be injured, as she can barely hold it up. is it broken? can broken tails heal? it is not crooked or weird looking....
also, can you dislocate a dog's tail? like if someone pulls on it?

she did not yelp when her tail was pulled and there is no lump or anything.
she does act like it hurts when i try to hold her tail up or when i squeeze on it.
is it possible that it is just bruised from being pulled or that the muscles are strained???

Has your dog been swimming a lot? This happened to my dog once and if it is the same thing it's called 'swimmer's tail.' It is quite common in labs and other sporting dogs that swim. It is basically like tendonitis of the tail from over use. My vet put my dog on some anti-inflammatories and told me to keep her from swimming for a couple weeks. In any case I would take my dog to the vet just for piece of mind in case there is anything wrong. Good luck

you can dislocate and bruise a tail bone. You can also bruise/pull the muscles around it. If it was broken- you would usually feel a break/bend/twist, and your dog would be yelping if you touched it and tried to move a broken tail.
You didn't mention anything about pain- are you sure that it is not just a behavioral thing? A subordinant dog would not put their tail all the way up. If it was very submissive- only the tip of it (or just her butt) would wag when she was happy.

Yes, dogs can have bruised tails, AND broken tails. At any rate, you need to take the dog to the vet if it doesn't clear up in a day. Dogs DO have feelings in their tails. They have nerve endings and a lot of other things.
If you suspect someone is pulling on you dog's tail, you need to get them to stop it.

a dog's tail can be injured and by the sounds of it may be paralysed, it isn't a big problem as it doesn't hurt the dog and can't cause anymore damage unless it drags on the ground in which case you would have to get it removed. but i would take the dog to a vet and get a professional opinion

Tails have bone and tendon, so yes, they can be injured. I would take the dog to the vet to have it checked out.
I like to follow the "If it was me" test. If I had a mysteriously limp limb, would I go to the doctor? Yes. So the dog should go to the vet. :)

you are able to dislocate and bruise a tail bone. you additionally can bruise/pull the muscular tissues around it. If it replaced into broken- you may in many circumstances experience a destroy/bend/twist, and your canines could be yelping in case you touched it and tried to bypass a broken tail. You did no longer point out something approximately discomfort- are you specific that it is not purely a behavioral situation? A subordinant canines does no longer positioned their tail each and each of ways up. If it replaced into very submissive- purely the top of it (or merely her butt) might wag whilst she replaced into happy.

Yep you can dislocate a tail and yep it can be broken. Get her to a vet for an exray and a diagnosis. The lump could also be from an injury from a puncture wound and be an abcess - your vet will be able to help her.
