Hi, i've started to have these wierd super fast heart rythms since age 12. when they happen, my head goes really dizzy like im about to faint, feels like theres a lot of pressure on my chest and feel a loss of air. Atrial fibrillation. i've went to the cardioologists and everything they checked my heart in everyway they said it's a completely healthy heart they don't know why these strange fast heart rythms occur but they say its Atrial fibrillation.
I'm not taking meds for it, because it's not very seriouse for now it happends basicly once every 4 -5 months. but now that i'm in high school and this heart rythm happened at school not to long ago while doing gym really freaked me out because it was like infront of everyone and they ddidnt know what was going on with me. but it went away after.
I didn't pay much attention to this Atrial fibrillation before but now i worry and stress about it so much!! like i dont want it to happen again. should i get like a counseler to talk stuff thru

If you feel like talking out your problems would help in some way, go for it.

You do need to talk to your doctor about this, did they explain to you what happens when you have atrial fibrillation? It can get very serious and you could have a stroke. They might have to put you on a blood thinner or at least to take a aspirin or half an aspirin a day. Go and talk to him about this and don't start taking any over the counter stuff before you've talked to your doctor. You should be checked regularly with an ECG. Especially now that you're in high school, there's more stress etc. Go soon!
Don't play around with your heart.

If your heart rhythm is fast and regular (you might need an EKG to be sure) you probably don't have atrial fibrillation, but PSVT (paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia) instead. If the rhythm is not regular, it is probably atrial fibrillation. Sometimes AF is so fast that it seems regular, which is why the EKG is necessary. In either case, I don't think it is something you can just ignore. I would suggest you go back to the cardiologists and ask what can be done. PSVT can be treated relatively easily. AF is somewhat harder to treat, but it appears you are having enough problems with your heart to warrant more evaluation. Talking to a counsellor might help with stress in general, but not specifically with this problem.

i also have this from time to time. it got worse when i was about 6 months pregnant with my second son and eventually had to be put om medicine for it. it still happens from time to time as well as pvc's (premature heartbeats) which makes it feel like your heart flutters. that ,too can be very scary. i will tell you what helps me when i have one of these "attacks". if you have access to ice, get a washcloth, wet it, and put about 4 or 5 pieces of ice in it. rub it all over your face and neck. it always helps, because it stimulates your vagus nerve and gives your system kind of a shock because it is so cold. but believe me your not the only one who suffers from this, and before i realized what helped me i was in the emergency room about twice a month because i thought i was dying!! after i learned what helped and learned how to calm myself down, it is not really that big of an issue for me anymore even though i still suffer from it every now and again. i know it is easy for me to tell you not to worry, but you really don't need to because that alone can make it so much worse. i wish you all the luck in the world and i hope you start feeling better!
