for most of christian history, the entireity of the followers of the christian faith felt that things we now think of as ugly blemishes upon human history as morally sanctioned by god.

until about 120 years ago most christians felt that the bible dictated man's dominance and women's submissiveness.
when slavery was in effect, many americans thought that it was morally santioned by the bible. why not be more specific?
instead of inspiriring the writers of the bible to write a huge portion of the Old Testament with books detailing the history of Israel, why not write whole books of practical, clear, concise, uncontentious, moral instructions?

for example, why not write things like:
man and women are equal. man is no more the master of a woman than she is the master of him.
do not make other people your slaves
???

The Bible writers have been certainly stimulated via God to write what they did. yet their loose will replaced into no longer taken away. There are circumstances interior the scriptures the place the Bible writers inserted their own concept or feeling into the text textile. Ex: a million Thessalonians 5:28: "The undeserved kindess of our Lord be with you." This replaced into no longer something from God. It replaced into Paul wishing the congregation in Thesalonica properly. All human beings, previous and cutting-edge, have loose will. God will by no potential take that away. And he did no longer with the scribes the two. good and undesirable issues take place to human beings by way of way the worldwide is. that is not any longer a rely of God removing loose will.

Because the Bible is a book from a particular time, place, and culture (or rather, a couple of different cultures within a relatively small span of a couple of centuries). In that time/place/culture, the social conventions you're questioning were accepted.

This is one reason why I do not feel that the cultural instructions in the Bible -- at least 1600 years old -- are particularly useful for applying to today's world. The general moral lessons, on the other hand, can have considerable merit.

Because the Bible was written by men who enjoyed living like that. Harry Potter is much more balanced with equal rights for women and no male domination.

Hmm, I think God is very specific in the Bible concerning everything. Woman are to be submissive to our husbands, we are the weaker vessel and men are natural born leaders. Nothing is more disgusting than a pansy man who won't be boss in his own home. The Bible is clear on morals, maybe you just don't like what God is telling you.

We were not created for this world but the kingdom which is to come. God apparently cares more about your eternal salvation than your flesh...imagine that! Chrisitans are taught not to live according to their flesh but are taught that the spirit should rule over their flesh. Have you ever tried to explain orange to someone who is colorblind?
