im 21 and i was diagnosed with anxiety last month, and today i went to the doctor and had the usual done weight and blood pressure. when i asked her what my blood pressure was she said it was 136/80 too high for someone my age. she said it was from the anxiety. my question is what effect will this have on my body, and could it really be from anxiety or is it from something else?

Try to find ways to relax. Take time out in the day to just drop what you're doing and just read or take a nap. Some folks swear by yoga or meditation. Just find a way to rest your mind for an hour...that should help

Some people get high blood pressure while at the doctors office. it is referred to as "white coat syndrome" However, what your doctor should do is wait, let you relax a bit, and then take the blood pressure again. The alternative is to have your blood pressure checked at some other more casual times and places, just to see if the pressure stays high.
it is a good idea to keep an eye on it, i always have this problem, so i dismissed the real thing.

No effect on your body. That's still within a normal range for anyone.
I don't know why they would tell you it was too high. It's not.

Anxiety will temporarily raise your BP but it's not anything to worry about.

High BP is when the bottom number goes about 90 and stays that way for long periods of time.

Were you anxious at the time? Because getting excited can make you BP go up. I have anxiety as well so at times when I was really anxious about things my BP would be much higher than it should be. You will be fine as long as you can control the anxiety. Because when you are calmer your BP will go back down.

its high but not all that high. it could very well be that it is from anxiety. i have anxiety attacks and it raises my b.p. but, it could also be that you have something called white coat syndrome,(which i also have)that runs your b.p. up just because your having it taken! calm down ,and don't let things get to you so much. good luck and know that your not the only one!!
