I just don't know what to do. Each time my mate and I go out, he expects for me to pay. He never reach for his billfold unless I just walk away and leave him holding the check. This has been going on for over a year now. At first I didn't mind because he was unemployed but now he has been working for nine months. When he has to pay the rest of the the night is very gloomy. But if I pay for the date, he is so sweet and loving.What to do?

Sounds to me like he is cheap. Talk to him and find out why he does not want to pay. Tell him that you will be willing to pay for half the bill or for what you order but you will not pay all the time. Communication is the key to any relationship.

Don't compromise. Let him know that you footed the bill for x amount of years. Then, remind him that you have even so generously paid the bill when he had a job. Then, work out a system. Either you split the bill, or one night you pay for the bill, the next time he pays for the bill. And let him know that rule no. 1 is this - under no circumstances are you to purposely order a lot of food just to make the other's bill high and harder to manage.

I think you are being used. A gentleman offers to pay. However, you've been together a long time, so splitting the bill is a fair compromise. Speak up and tell him what you think. If it's problem for him, then you know you were being used, and you know it's time to drop him and find a man who doesn't need you to feed him.

you getting the bill sometimes is a nice gesture, but him never even offering just shows he cheap.. like really cheap! i wouldn't be down if my boyfriend made me pay every time we went out.. especially if you've been dating that long! i think you should talk to him about it and see what happens.. maybe he just doesn't realize how rude he's being and maybe all the other girls he's dated never minded picking up the checks

I'd dump him! If hes isn't responsible enough to pay now think about later!! The rule for this situation says that the male shuold pay for dinner and anything else you do together.
