When I first open wmp, its fine but after a while, the task manager says the cpu usage is 100%. I have wmp10. I tried wmp11 but its the same problem and i dont like it either. I did a thorough virus scan and found nothing. How can i fix?

Googly Bear ... The SAME thing happened to me over the weekend. It kind of freaked me out, but I happened to be looking at my network traffic indicator and noticed that traffic unexpectedly was going out at the time.

That seemed really strange so I checked the Windows Task Manager and my firewall software and they helped me to determine that Windows Media Player was causing it.

So, let me get to the point. I opened the Options section and to my surprise, I learned that my options were set to enable online swapping/sharing and my library of songs were being searched and some downloads from my system were in progress.

Well, I put a stop to that QUICK! I feel funny when my system seems to have a mind of its own.

In WMP, go to the Tools menu, then Options. Select the Library tab (a strange place for this setting), and see the Sharing section; click on Configure Sharing and de-select Share My Media. Click OK on both windows and that stopped it right away.

Since that happened to me, I've been wondering what might have caused that. Perhaps a Windows patch changed those settings? Maybe that's the installation default?

Also, I had just finished using CCleaner earlier in the day and I wondered whether my settings for WMP may have been wiped out and perhaps sharing was enabled by default. I'm not sure, but I got mine under control.

Googly ... I hope you figure out what's causing your problem. Good luck with it.

memory leak or possible you need a cpu, I know on my old 2000 Athlon Amd cpu windows media player was using full usage, you might just wanna upgrade your CPU or try foobar2000 which dosen't use to much of the cpu and dosen't come with alot of useless stuff.

you have corrupted files it seems. really only thing to do is uninstall it complete off your system and reinstall it. bad thing is thoug, it will be the new 11 that get loaded into your system unless you go to the site and pick the version you wan. you can get it all the way back to 7.1 if you want.
