I believe in it " For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. 4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ."
But I also believe that many of the bad things that happen come from misunderstandings or are the result of our or someone elses sin.
Also, read Daniel Chapter 10 and pay close attention to verses 12-14 where the angel explains that He was battling in the heavenly realms while Daniel was fasting.

If you're going to do battle, make sure you're wearing the armor of God!
"Put on the armor of God so that you may be able to stand firm against the tactics of the devil. For our struggle is not with flesh and blood but with the principalities, with the powers, with the world rulers of this present darkness, with the evil spirits in the heavens. Therefore, put on the armor of God, that you may be able to resist on the evil day and, having done everything, to hold your ground. So stand fast with your loins girded in truth, clothed with righteousness as a breastplate, and your feet shod in readiness for the gospel of peace. In all circumstances, hold faith as a shield, to quench all (the) flaming arrows of the evil one.
And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God."

As a Christian, I am at war with sin. Primarily in my own life. As with other armies, I suppose, part of my responsibility is to strengthen my fellow warriors in their fight and aid the wounded and the fallen when I am able.
My war is never with other individuals or with political parties or groups of people.
There is a tendency in human nature to run from the darkness we see in ourselves and fight the battle in others. Psychology calls it reaction formation. Jesus called it trying to take the speck out of my brother's eye, when I have a beam in my own eye.
While I cannot live my life obsessed with myself and my weaknesses, neither can I live my life in ignorance of the war for my soul. The battleground is my own heart and mind. No amount of obsession with the sins of others wins my battle.

People who claim they are in "spiritual warfare" are really delusional and need psychological help. I think it's pathetic that humans kid themselves into thinking that divine beings are in a battle for their souls. A little egotistical is what I think.
