everyone was allied, or shared culture with an ally, or spoke the same language as an axis, or could get things they wanted by joining.

Bismarck intentionally created a network of alliances which would trigger a large scale war if anything broke out; the idea was to protect Germany by making its neighbors afraid to start a larger conflict than they bargained for. The assassination of the Archduke did not 'cause' WWI so much as trigger a conflict based on existing animosities.

It didn't *have* to happen that way; Germany asked France for an assurance not to attack, because its interest was in backing up Austria-Hungary. France refused to make that guarantee, thus effectively creating the conflict on the western front. (The fact that France stood to gain back territory if it won may have had something to do with that.) Without French intransigence, we probably would have had a Russo-German war with Britain and the US *supporting* Germany, and prevented the rise of the Soviet Union. Thanks, froggies!

You and I..we ask our selves.."WHY"...'why can an event cause a war'?... but... we elect people who ask themselves " HOW"... 'HOW can we cause a war?'..... what...? you dont believe me?
The simplest way of 'governing' is to unite the public..and WAR does do THAT. Granted...it is devisive to different governmental ideologys... and other countrys just dont willingly copitulate to us...and usualy get a littel testy with our arogance and our democracy and our freedom and our wealth and our consumption and our better-than-thou attitudes, and our candelstine opertives, and our sneeky littel ploys to influence or out-rite inflame insurgancys...but, by god we are doing it for there own bennifit...rite?
...aaa... WW1.... the one nobody refused... the one that 'fixed' things... the one with a 'purpose'... the one we justify with righousness. Youbetcha. WAR is not communication...it's devestation...and it has no winners, other than the political supremacy of civil-social ideologys...
A WAR IS COMMUNICATION FAILURE IN SUTO.

That one event was a spark. If the Arch Duke was not killed by the Black Hand something else would have started it. Have you heard of the straw that broke the camel's back? This event broke a very strained back indeed

Research it yourself, then you will have a opinion like others on here. You will get different ones here, so it is best to make up your own mind and have one of your own, every one else does.
