I want my cat to stop pushing it's way through the blinds and bending them to stare out the window. then goes crazy when it sees another cat or a squirel and ruins the blinds more. I try to squirt her and she will run away, then about an hour later she's back in the window. I don't want her by the window.

open the blinds so the cat can see out the windows that's what cats do, they are interested in the world around them

You cannot stop a cat that wants to lok out a window. I understand your predicament since I once lived in a grd fl apartment and every window faced a sidewalk which was always full of people walking their pets. This is how I solved my problem:
1. I placed a table against the window so that the cat can sit on the table and be able to see out the bottom part of the window.
2. I raised the blinds of that window abour 1/5th or 1/4 up - just enough for the cat to be able to see outside, but low enough for curious outsiders not to be able to see inside very clearly unless the actually pressed their noses on the window glass (ha ha ha).
3. This way, when the cat gets excied about seeing another animal, the dancing and prancing takes place on the table and the cat does not have to claw at the blinds to have a better look.
4. Remember, from outside, the interior of an apartment is very dark and difficult to see. So, raising the blinds just a bit won't impact your privacy too much.

First of all a squirt gun is a form of barbaric torture for your cat. What's the big deal? My cats look out the window, and would surely ruin the blinds if I left them down. Raise the blinds a little and let your cat be stimulated by the outdoors. Just because the cat is domesticated doesn't mean that all animal instincts are gone. It is imperative that you let the cat look out. Otherwise, you will have a very temperamental kitty with no where to expel energy than towards you.

Unfortunately, looking out of a window is in the nature of a cat. I really don't think there is much you can do, short of locking your cat in a closet to keep it from looking out a window. It's like cat TV. It really would be like punishment to keep your cat from looking out the window. I know that's where I find my cats at almost all times, and I don't know what they are looking at, as we are way up in an apartment building. They may just be getting some sun on good days, or trying to get heat on cold days. Only when we are in bed do they remove themselves from the windows.
Maybe you need different blinds?

hi there u sound just like me I live on the first floor too and had a cat that love to look out the window. but of cause I though of anyone lurking in . so what I did was cover the bottom windows with some kind of coth somewhat like papertower and tape it to all the windows I just leave the top windows for daylight.ya the cat try to rip it but I kept saying no no no to the cat . I have shades in all the windows and i got some thick curtains so what happen was the shades go up the curtains stay down and the cat looks out at night the shades go down . he also start to climb the air conditioner and lay on it their he would sleep and ya watch the other cats and birds he was a fast cat runing so fast . u can not trap a cat indoors without it looking through a window give it at less one window in your home it's like us watching tv the window is their enjoyment .in the summer u can get a window screen also put gates on your window the good one my home came with small gates on each window I just put on the locks. well to make a story short I had to give jason away cause my daughter was getting her allergies. we miss him .
well I hope you u can give it one window even if u do not open it and block the other windows so that it will not go there. be well be safe

u can't stop a cat from doing what all cats love which is staring out the window at other animals. So i think that you should raise your blinds a little so that the cat can see out, but not enough for others to see in.

That's cruel to make a cat live inside without even being able to look outside. Pick a window for the kitty to sit in and raise the blind for it. Forget the "weird" people who look in, just keep your personal stuff out of sight, and do what's best for your cat.

I am in a similar situation. My bedroom window is right near my neighbor's front door so I usually leave those blinds closed, but I leave the blinds on one window in my living room about 1/2 up and have a perch there for the kitty to sit on. This seems to be working well, though he does have a tendency to attack the blinds in my bedroom sometimes. We are planning on moving in a few months!

I also recommend adding a long curtain or drape. You could then pull the blinds up for the cat while maintaining your privacy. Look for a curtain rod that extends out from the wall to give the cat some space without having to fight with the curtains. Some rods extend 4-5 inches. Good luck!

Cats really do need the stimulation of looking out windows. Instead of using blinds, why not try dark heavy curtains (like in hotel rooms)? That way the weirdos can't see in your apartment, but the cat is able to poke her head around the curtain to look out the window.
