The Eyptians were blind not the Isrealites. Wouldn't that have saved God some time?

Maybe it was dark for them too, and they didn't have the plague of flashlights back then.....?

Well, to answer your question in a *gulp* spiritual way...

The plague wasn't actually blinding the egyptians, it was a heavy and thick dust/fog that fell across the land, therefore, even if god allowed the israelites to see, it would be tough travel due to the thickness of the air.

Wouldn't have made as good a film if they had! Can you imagine Charlton Heston playing Moses saying, "Quiet now, you in the back stop stepping on every branch you find! Shhhhh!" Then slowly tiptoeing out of Egypt...

...a lot less dramatic...

It wasn't part of God's plan for them to escape. If he wanted them to do so, he would have had Moses lead them out then.

I believe that Pharoah still needed some convincing too because he promised to let them go, but changed his mind. God needed to do the one last plague to totally convince Pharoah.

Just my $.02.

Then there was this whole body of water seperating them...you know, the Red Sea...and it's kind of hard to "sneak" thousands of people out of a country, no matter how dark/blind (thanks for the correction) it is.

There were hundreds of thousands of them. There was no sneaking anywhere with such a crowd.

They were in bondage (slaves) under the new Pharoh of Egypt.
