I have researched it because my grandosn has it very bad! Without going to a dermotoligist regularly and using prescriptions I think the best advice I found and have used for him is to not bathe every day because the water dries you out worse.Or you can bathe the armpits and personal areas only and then useCetaphil on the entire body. You clean your skin without water by rubbing it on and then use a soft cloth to remove it and you still fresh and clean.Use a very good skin conditioner am and pm, especially after baths and before going out into the cold or windy weather. The best thing I have used on him is BagBalm. It is actually made for cows bags but over the years it has been used for humans. It is the best thing for fever blisters yet! I rub it all over my grandson and it makes him feel so much better. He was very chapped and scaley last week and got into trouble in school because the irritation was bothering him so much he got antsy in class! I rubbed him head to toe and he was very relieved.I have used it on diaper rash on my 6 grandkids, scrapes, sunburns, and lots more for years. You can find it at Walmart in the pet section or at farm stores. I bought my last can at the pharmacy. It is approx $5.50 for the can(approx.3 in. sq green can)and it will last for months because it doesn't take much to coat the skin. You can also buy very small cans (about 1 1/2 in sq.)at craft shows.People carry the small ones in their purses. My sister has used it on her fever blisters and it immediately takes the pain out.ou can also use a good moistureizer lotion or Vasaline which is great.Baby oil is pretty good too but I still prefer the BagBalm most!Best wishes!.

You didn't mention WHERE the dry skin is. Face? Hands? General body? What is your age?
Twenties teenager 40's? Older?

On you face I would suggest a cream with COQ10 in it, if you are young then Oil of Olay in a lotion form.

On your hands ALWAYS use hand cream. At night you may have to rub them with Vasoline and wear cotton gloves for a week or two. This even worked for me on dry patches on my face. Just rub a little in-also works if your nose gets raw from blowing it. :)

On you general body here is what keeps my skin as soft as a baby's bottom:

Shower with a bar of Ivory soap(I prefer the Aloe Vera but any would be fine. If you worry about body odor use Dial liquid soap for those places that may need a little more help.

Just before you get out of the shower take a palm full of baby oil (Dollar Store is fine) rub in from toes to neck. You may need to use more than 1 palm full but hey-it's cheap! Rinse off under the warm water then towel dry. In no time at all your skin will be very smooth and supple again.

Forget about lotions and creams, take Sophia Lorens advice, Olive Oil. Buy a small bottle of extra virgin cold pressed Olive Oil and rub it into your skin when you get out of the shower and your skin is still damp. If you think you will smell of it, don't! You can always use a bit of your favourite fragrance and spray a bit. This is the cheapest and best way to keep your skin smooth. My daughter is a nurse and she came over with really chapped hand, they felt like alligator skin, I got the bottle out, ignored her strange look and started to rub it into her hands and within an hour her skin was smooth. I know it sounds ridiculous, but try it.

Cetaphil lotion works best. My dermatologist had me start using it years ago. You can buy it at Walgreens, Walmart, etc.

You should also lotion up just after getting out of the shower, preferrably while your body is still damp. It'll hep keep the moisture in.

Trust me, it works!!!!!
