I know this sounds like a something a slacker would do or someone lazy, but I'm both. Whenever we have a test, I feel no motivation to study for it at all. Even the hour before I don't see the point. Usually I have to force myself to buckle down and concentrate and even then I feel bored to tears, quite literally and so discouraged. Any advice to ENCOURAGE study behavior? Please no mean comments.

Think of it like this, and then it might encourage you - If you don't study, you'll probably fail the test, and you'll get a bad grade, and you will keep getting bad grades by not studying, and this will affect how well of a job you get and what college you go into, so if you want to be filthy rich and live a prosperous life in the future, think to yourself that you have to study. You can also attempt to integrate games with studying, like make a jeopardy game with some of your friends to help you study, but I just study by looking over notes and reading, and for me there is no problem in being encouraged to study

of you put in C effort, you will most likely live a C lifestyle when you're older. If you put an A effort, you'll probably live an A lifestyle. You get what you put in out of life. When i was in school i was the same way as you. Looking back on it, i'm content with where i am, but wish i would have studied more. it's only a few years of studying and lavish living for the rest of your beautiful life. good luck sweetie.

let me help

Ultimately, we want our kids to love to learn. A passion for learning is quite different from just studying to earn a grade or to please parents or teachers. Those who develop a love of learning at an early age continue the process throughout their lives and are generally more successful, interesting, and happier than those who don't.

Increasing Motivation

Motivation is a complex issue, with a number of causes and solutions -- many of which are of interest to university students, who usually know what they should be doing, but occasionally complain that they "lack the motivation" to do it.

Many people complain of lack of motivation because of boredom. This may be merely an indication that one is using an inappropriate study strategy (it is probably too passive). Once a better strategy is applied, motivation returns and learning improves.

Use of an inappropriate learning strategy can result in poor learning, and in negative attitudes. Boredom may indicate that you are not challenging yourself enough with the strategy you are using. If you find that you are bored with reading (an inherently passive activity), for example, try doing a Concept Map to review the material you have read, or see if you can come up with your own examples, counterexamples, or applications of the concepts you are learning.
