My favorite place to camp is Lake Cachuma. It has everything you need not like some campground that are not secured this place is huge and it a safe place to camp... Not so long ago a heard that a person was killed in one of the local camp grounds. when I'm at lake cachuma I don't worry.
Each Camp site has running water so you can rinse off dishes.
Each camp site is huge with room enough for 3 tents and two cars so that you can bring a bunch of friends along. This place has flushing toilets as well as pay showers that have hot water. The lake also have boats for rent and you can also fish the down side is that you can't go into the lake but they do have two swimming pools.
You can also go exploring they have Indian painted caves... A casino is not too far away, Solvang and wineries are not too far away.
but the best part of this place they do no allow loud music after midnight so for me that cool because to don't have loud druggies that didn't pay for the spot next to you blaring loud music till 4 am.

By far, one of the most popular places to camp is Leo Carrillo State Beach. The campground is located just North of Malibu along the Pacific Coast Highway. The campground is nestled back in the hills which is nice because it keeps the wind down. There is a path that goes underneath PCH that leads you to the beach. There is tide pools and great surfing. The campground has all the amenities you need. Hot showers, camp store, wood for sale, fire pits. Lately there has been a large family of green parrots living in the area. It's kind of fun watching them fly around in the early mornings. The people are generally all very friendly. Make note though.. this campsite sells out 7 months in advance. You will need to buy your camp reservations on the 1st of every month.. 7 months in advance at www.reserveamerica.com! I'm not kidding. There is never a cancellation on a weekend... especially in the spring and summer months. But if you can go in the middle of the week, you might luck out! And if you are craving a little dining experience go just north up PCH to Neptune's Net. A local hangout visited frequently by motorcyclists and surfers. You won't miss it! The traffic will start to slow in the area.

Check it out. It's a great place!

It's in Eureka, CA That's all I can think of I stayed at more but these where my recent trips from 2003-2008 And maybe if you do go to these ones go to Redding, CA and go to Turtle Bay museum that place is also fun I suggest going in the Spring Time.

LOL I think genius (<---I mean that is his real name I am not being sarcastic) above means Lake Perris, in Perris, California part off the inland empire...I personally never "GOT" the camping thing, myself but different strokes...etc...and Silverwood Lake is halfway to Barstow so that is tooooo far out there unless you are also going to Vegas or something..Have fun rubbing your sticks together....
