Since my husband and I were married only 4 months last year, I want to know if we have to file Married. I would rather file single one last year since we both work and make good money.

You must file with your spouse, either Married Filing Jointly or Married Filing Separately. If you are married as of the last day of the year, your status is married. You can't file Single one last time for old times' sake. It is generally more beneficial to file jointly since you have a larger standard deduction, two exemptions rather than one & you have access to some tax credits that are disallowed for MFS status. In addition, if you file separately, if one of you itemizes your deductions, both must. If one takes the standard deduction, both must.

Internal Revenue regards your Marital Status on the last day of the year (12/31/2006), to be your basis for filing. You will need to file as married

Yes, you will file either married joint or married filing separately (MFS). Your filing status is determined by your marital status as of 12/31/06. Almost all of the time it is better to file jointly than MFS.
