My uncle has retired from the Coast Guard after serving 4 years in the Air Force first, and he always said that the Coast Guard was his best choice!

I was in the army but stationed in an air force facility. They were a bunch of well trained, very bright and hard working people. They also had better food the the army mess halls.
It depends on what you want to get out of the military. If you are interested in flight related work, join the air force. The seas, join the navy or coast guard. If you are willing to do tough, dangerous work like search and rescue or drug interdiction the coast guard is for you.
Whatever you do, remember that you are making a commitment, you are giving your word that you will do as told for a period of time. It isn't a game and you can't just walk away from it. Be prepared for the fact that no matter what service, you might have to fight.

I can't speak for the Coast Guard, but I did spend 20yrs and 1 day in the Air Force. Out of all the services, I believe that the Air Force is the service that is more industrialized than the others. Which means that it is more like working in a production environment than in a combat unit. Having dealt a little with the Coast Guard, it is involved with the protection of US coasts and with the rescue of persons in need. They work not only on the seas and oceans but also on our busy inland waterways.
Both are constantly involved in dangerous situations and both present challenges that you will never find in civilian life, unless you are dealing.
If I had it to do again, I would look more closely at the Coast Guard than I did. It seems to be more individually challenging of the two, but the Air Force is more challenging as a member of a team.

OK, It depends on what you want out of it, I have been to both types of bases, Coast Guard has an awesome NASCAR team, and the food is outstanding, but do you get sea sick. if so Join the Air Force, but you may get stuck in a cold and sucky base, but the food is still very good. But if you get air sick then join the Coast Guard.....lol good luck

I'm in the CG and it's the best service. Everyday we save lives. Air Forces have better bases but we have a right to go on those bases to shop and stuff so it doesn't really matter.
All our duty stations are along the Mississippi River, the Great Lakes and all along the Coast line.
We protect our country on the home front. It's the best feeling.

I was in the navy for 7 years and the best part had to be seeing other places on my deployments. I went all over Europe and several countries in South america. you get to meet a lot of different people both here and overseas. it can be very interesting. if you have the right attitude, you can have a lot of fun with it. plus theres always the option of getting stationed in Hawaii, but every service has base out there (except for army, I think.) Dont know anything personally about the coast guard or army.

The Air Force is seeing combat in other countries. The Coast Guard stays here in the U.S. I was in the Navy and thought it was a boring job.
