The pediatrician that I substitute nurse for recommends that most 10 year olds go to bed around 9:30 if they are to wake up at 6:30....so at least 9 hours. He said that around age 12 they can go down to 8 hours, but up until age 12 at least 9-10 hours of sleep. At least that's what he recommends...he's been a pediatrician for about 20 years, so he knows his stuff!

The more a child sleeps the better their brain works the next day.
I put my 6 year old in bed at 8pm for a 10 hour sleep before going to school.

my son is 11 and he goes to bed at 9:30 and gets up at 7:15 so I say anywhere between 8-10 hrs there still growing so sleep is much needed for them.
