I will be a Junior next fall and considering moving to an apartment, maybe even the University owned apartments. However, I really can't afford one unless I get a cosigner, which I don't know If I can get. I don't even have a car of my own yet! It sucks! But I plan to get a job in the summer to save up, but I'm not sure? Any advice college graduatues?

well if you dont have a car living on campus can be the best bet. its probably about the same as an apartment by yourself depending on how much it is and how much apts are around your college. If youre looking at an apt you need to figure in rent, utilities (electric, gas, water, sewer, trash- most apts pay for water sewer and trash not all for electric and gas an apt with heat paid is better and will lower the bills in the winter), cable tv if desired, internet, phone-cell or home, groceries, and gas to and from school. Its also better if you rent a house and get a few friends that are trustworhty to live with you to split the bills... helps ALOT!
When you live in the dorms everything is included in the price. So figure it out monthly for the semester/year and then figure it out for an apartment. Also alot of dorms close over breaks from school so youll have to make sure you can stay if you pay extra or plan on going home or somewhere else. hope that helps :)

Just keep in mind when residing off campus, not only do you have to pay rent, but often utilities are not included (gas, electric, cable, etc.) Also take into consideration the gas you will spend if you have to drive to campus (given that you don't have a car yet, you might need other transportation), and whether or not you want to do grocery shopping and make your own meals :)

On the plus side, it's nice to have the freedom of being in an apartment, and if you can find roomates, you will be able to split the cost.

However, I think overall you will be saving money if you hold off on the apartment, unless it is University owned. Once you graduate it's a lot easier. (I didn't even need a cosigner.) Maybe you can save up for a car!

Dorm... you'll never afford an apartment if you're not going to be working during the semester or you get a roommate. Even still, it will be a dinky one and you'll probably hate it.

At your age, you either really have two options. Stay in the dorm or get a ton of friends together to pitch in on a nice little house on campus with which you can party all night.

dorm life is not all it's cut out to be..TRuST ME!!! There are advantages..you don't have to drive around in a circle for 14 hours looking for a parking hole..you can eat on campus and don't have to cook, you always have someone to study with..no monthly bills (utilities, etc.) big one here *** you can sleep in and leave at the last minute to go to class....I really missed that when I moved off campus. there are also advantages to apt life..You need to sit down and decide how much money you would save if you had an apt and would it be worth it. In the city where I live, there are a lot of apts here in this one circle and several of these apts are FULL of college students..a lot of places are like that..you just have to decide what you want...I have lived in dorms and they can be very loud..lots of parties, etc..

Usually it is cheaper to live in an apartment, since you don't get all the niceities of dorm life. It really should be a personal choice, not a monetary one- You can get student loans for either you know.

Usually cheaper to live in student accomodation unless you find a nice room to let outwith (make sure it is secure and safe). The good thing about on camous is that you will have more time to study and be near friends. They are often very secure too.

I think an apartment if you are sharing with 2-3 other people. Get a bike or take the bus. This is life ... Good for you for getting an education!!!

apartment is definitely cheaper than living on dorms. You don't realize it b/c some schools transfer loans to their account.
