It is if you're lazy, which most of us, including myself, are. If you take the time to brush your teeth with a manual toothbrush how you're supposed to, the way your dentist or dental hygienist will show you, then studies show that there is no difference. However, for being in a hurry and not having much time to brush, an electric toothbrush probably will get your teeth cleaner than will manual brushing.

I have a Braun electric toothbrush that I got from my dentist and this is why I like it:

1) Brushes at least 10 times faster than I could ever do!
2) It came with a flossing accessory. Instead of having to play around with bits of string, I just touch this soft vibrating needle between my teeth and I can floss all my teeth in like 20 seconds.
3) It also came with a tongue scraper for bad breath days, and a gum massager as well, which I can't attest to, but it feels good...

Only thing is it cost me about 150 bucks. So it depends on what you think is 'worth' it, but I like it.

My dental hygienist said that an electric toothbrush isn't any better than a regular one but that people use it for a longer period of time.

I still think my teeth feel cleaner and that my gums are healthier.

I use a Crest Pro. It has a head that rotates. And the bottom of the head goes up and down.

THE ACTUAL STUDIES DO SHOW THAT THERE IS A SLIGHT ADVANTAGE IN THE ELECTRIC AS FAR AS THE BRISTLES GOING DEEPER INTO THE GINGIVAL SULCUS THAN THE MANUAL TYPE, BUT THIS IS ONLY MEASURED IN TENTHS OF A MILLIMETER ( VERY SMALL).
WHERE THE ELECTRIC TRIUMPHS IS IN THE SPEED THAT THE BRISTLES CONTACT THE TOOTH/GUMS. ONCE YOU TRY THE ELECTRIC YOU'LL NEVER GO BACK TO MANUAL.

Try it and you'll answer the question yourself. It feels like how your mouth feels when you get a professional cleaning. That little machine goes to work like you never would. You have to get the sonicare from Costco. It's the best price and if you don't like it you can always return it. And like the commercials say it's the dentist first choice.

Sorta, it brushes faster, Other wise, people are fascinated by the commercials and the technology. It just makes life easier- for teeth brushers. But then, people are getting to lazy to actually brush thier teeth the right so, you shouldnt get one if you want one. But you can if you want to spend money and electricity, charging a tooth brush.

Personally, I think it is a waste of money. Just grab a manual toothbrush, some toothpaste and listerine. That is all you need.
