It drives me crazy when people say they love their boyfriend/girlfriend/huband/wife more than anyone in the world. A partner can (and usually does) leave you at any time. How can this person, who was a stranger until recently, suddenly mean more to a person than their own flesh and blood? Especially their mother, who has (usually) loved and cared for them all their life? I am a passionate person who has been madly in love and living with a partner (and soulmate) for years, but I could never say he was more important than my own family. As important, maybe, but more important, no.

i agree with you, and as of now no i don't love anyone more then my mother. if someday i get married i can't say that i will love that person, more then my mom because did that person give my life? was always there for me? raised me, protected me? and just put up with me and never left me? i don't think so, my mom will always have a special place in my heart that no one else can have, thats the best way i can describe it. boyfriends come and go.

The only people I ever loved more than my own mother are my own children. I am not even sure that I can actually say I love them "more", I love my mother and my children at the same level. Unconditionally. There is no one on this earth I could love any more than them. My mother passed away 5 years ago and it was the most difficult thing I have ever faced in my life. The only thing that could be more difficult would be the loss of one of my children. I think it is impossible to love someone more than your own parent or your own children.

I see what you mean.I moved away from my mother at 16..she abused me phyiscaly and mentaly as a child,so i would not say i love her more than anyone else in the world..i have found over the years i find subsitites for the mother figure in friends. What i am saying is not everyone has this ideal realtionship with thier family...but yes you are right in many respects, atho i would not let family intervine too much in your relationships.

I think that love for a mother is a different kind of love. I don't think anyone means any disrespect to their moms when they make statements like that. I think they mean out of everyone else in the world. I love my husband more than any other man in the world so I can understand their statements.

When people say they love someone more than anything else in the world, it's just an expression, like saying I love you to death. And you don't love someone more than your family, you love many people in your life, but you love them "differently", The love you have for your mother is not stronger, or less than your love for a mate, it's a completly different kind of love. Lucky for us human's, our ability to love does not have, a limited amount of space in our hearts, we can add more, and never run out of room.

it is perfectly normal to feel that way, actually. all the way back to the BC days, that is the way things went. once you got hooked up, you left your parents to make a way for yourself in the world, and you loved your partner more than anyone. you see, when you get married, your whole idea of life changes. your influences change, your future changes, and you are no longer tied to your own flesh and blood, but his/her flesh and blood.

There is nothing wrong with thinking of those values. A mothers love is like a moutain, it is permanent it will always be there. Love is taking a chance, accept there is always that mountain in the background that you can see in the background. Take care Heather

having a partner is way of showing independence and growing up and moving forward in your life. you show a different kind of love towards your partner then you would to your mom. you can love both of them more than anyone else in the world.
