Puritan society tried to live the morals taught in the Holy Scriptures, today people may or may not try to live by morals set by society. I would disobey the rules of society if they were forcing me to act against Gods will.

It depends on what part of today's society you are talking about. I mean the Puritans had to use very harsh means to maintain the structure of their society. It is hard to compare killing a few dissidents in times of economic development to killing millions unborn babies.

Moral according to?

The Bible? Puritan society. Obviously, their laws were biblically based. (The first 106 of 108 Christian colleges were founded on specific Christian principles, including, Yale, Harvard, and others)

Sure there were hypocrites, but morals were different back then.

Political Correctness? Today's society.

"As long as no one knows, it's OK"
"As long as the media condones it, it's OK"

Look around you. Abortion is legal, murder is not. Yet, both are qualified as murder.
Murder runs rampant in America's large cities, racism, teenage pregnancies, drugs and mankind's useless attempt to control it.
Today's society is now defined but what an individual says is moral. Gay rights, abortion, marriage foundation, separation of church and state, offenses, lawsuits, you name it.
Get the movie "Time Changer." You will see the difference only a 100 years make when it comes to moral clarity.

Today even though it is not always clear we are experiencing a
change in the world that is ushering in a whole new way of life
and understanding. This change is a new understanding and human tolerance for one another and will prove to be an era of mans greatest treasures, even though the change is fearful at
times

I'd say today's society. We don't nail people's tongues if they say an unorthodox opinion, or drive them out into the cold with the possibility that hostile tribes will kill them. We don't stone people. We don't make women work in corsets!

Puritans thought they were better than everyone. They only came to America to be elitists and that ideology seems more prevalent than ever.

It depends on what you consider moral.

If morality is relative then your question has no basis.

if morality is fixed by some precepts then it depends on what those are.
