Those that think the egg came first can't explain where the egg came from. Genesis explains where the chicken came from, before there were any eggs.
God bless you and keep you.

Well the egg is a single cell which God made first but was much smaller. It didn't have anything to eat IT so there was no chance it would die. It ate vegetation in the sea. (it was not the only one). Since the vegetation was first, it was likely a paticular plant began producing these eggs. Then the creatures from these eggs swam and grew and mated. They changed and grew and eventually walked on land, then laid eggs on land. When these eggs hatched on land, there was nothing to eat them so they can grow and survive and live off the land and mate and multiply. I assume plants on land could also have been producing eggs. the egg came before the Chicken but of course a chicken is not what laid the first chicken egg.

As I always say everytime this question is brought up: it's the ROOSTER who "came" first.
Actually, the answer is the egg, by a long shot. Millions of years. In fact, chickens aren't even wild animals. They're domesticated. They were man-made by selectively breeding different kinds of pheasants and fowl over generations. So even if take the Book of Genesis as literally true, the egg came first.
If you want to know where the egg came from (and want a more reasonable answer than "A big invisible man created them", which doesn't really tell us anything), go research oviparity.

"Belief" does NOT change the FACT that chickens have only been around for about 5,000 years while eggs have been around since the days of the dinosaurs (millions of years).
Obviously, the EGG came long, long before the CHICKEN.
Note: certainly your question would be a bit more difficult if it asked "chicken or the chicken egg". But it didn't.

Chicken and Rooster first, then the fertilized egg...duh!
Someone needs to talk with their local farmer! I'm no rocket scientist, but I'm pretty confident that they had to get the chicken first before the eggs would appear...Next, they'd have to get a rooster if they wanted those eggs fertilized.
No charge! Peace.

I am Roman Catholic. My answer to this is- it was the chicken. God created the world, including the animals in it. He gave them powers to reproduce, some in more different ways than others.
