One could argue that, since there was no complete Bible put together until the late 4th century, that very little Biblical knowledge is necessary. Anyone can memorize a book. Having faith in what you've read or heard ... THAT is minimal for a Christian. You don't have to be a biblical scholar. Also, remember that until 500 years ago and the advent of the printing press, 90% of the population couldn't read, anyway!

Good question. The story of Jesus's life is very important. The parables are important since Jesus mostly taught in parables. People should be taught all the scriptures related to the devil and his fallen angels.

The following scriptures are very important:
- Satan can perform lying signs and wonders.
Exodus 7:9-11; 8:17-19; Deuteronomy 13:1-5;
Matthew 24:24; Mark 13:22; 2 Thessalonians 2:9;

- This spiritual warfare is still taking place between the powers of darkness and light.
Daniel 10:13, 21; Ephesians 6:11-17

- Jesus was not talking to Himself when He rebuked evil spirits and was tempted by Satan in the wilderness. Matthew 4:1-10; 17:18; Mark 5:8-13; 8:33; 9:25, 26

- Recognize who the saved are.
Acts 16:16, 17

- They seek and accept worship.
Leviticus 17:7; Deuteronomy 32:17; 2 Chronicles 11:15; Psalms 106:37; Matthew 4:8-10 (Luke 4:5-7); 1 Corinthians 10:20

- They are subject to those who believe.
Luke 10:17, 19, 20; Romans 16:20; Ephesians 2:6, Colossians 2:12-15; 1 John 2:13, 14; 4:4; 5:18;

- Murderer. John 8:44
- Liar. John 8:44 (Genesis 3:4)
- The tempter. Matthew 4:3; 1 Thessalonians 3:
- The enemy. Matthew 13:38, 39; Ephesians 6:11
- The thief. John 10:10

Ephesians 6:11, 13 "Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.... Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand."
James 4:7

- The Ten Commandments - Moses
- The story of Mose's life is very important.

All parents should make sure their children know about all of the above.

WHY- I have had many personal experiences that confirm most of the above Scriptures mentioned.

I think that you can be a Christian without reading the Bible. As long as you know about Jesus and believe that he is the savior of man then you are a christian. There are plenty of people who can't read who are christians.

confess with mouth/believe in heart that Jesus is Lord and He rose from the dead.

however, the Bible also insists that Christians should have an answer to anyone who questions the reason for the hope that lies within us.

that's why it is important to every Christian to study and understand the difficult principles of the Bible.

Well, you don't need much to be a baby Christian. The Word of God is like food. Milk for a baby, then as you grow in your Christian life, you find you want steak once in awhile.

As you mature, you will read it all, and over and over since it is eternal, never-ending.

I think everyone that accepts christ in their life are at different levels in their walk. It's important to seek knowledge from the bible as it is the word of god that we must seek to live by. The minimal is admitting you are a sinner and need christ in your life, then you go from there.

John 3:
16"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son."

These are the words that bring eternal life. Jesus was God's son, born of a virgin, died on the cross for our sins and rose again on the third day to over come death. If anyone follows his teachings they will live eternally with him.

I think it depends on the person and how much they desire to know. I would say in order to be a Christian you should believe in the life, death and resurrection of Christ. One should hopefully hold to a belief in their own resurrection from the dead at or after Christ's return as well, but this is my opinion.

Virgin Birth.
That He taught people. Did some miracles.
That He died.
That He rose.

I think those are the important parts. That is all many people know.
