We have Sally, a little silky x maltese pup and she is still teething. She just nipped my daughter on the face. Any suggestions to improve our training? SHe goes for anyone who gets down on her level (usually the kids) we do that loud high pitched ouches and no's, but it doesn't seem to be working.

PLEASE DO LISTEN TO askdaPRO.

A dog is NOT a child so time outs DO NOT work. A dog needs to be corrected in a way it will understand so SCRUFF IT!!
You can not allow this behavior and if more is not done then high pitched tones and time outs your child will end up getting hurt.

EDIT: Actually a dog does not understand what no means they understand the reaction to the action. No is over used and " no" what?

You just have to remember that its not the dogs fault, everything is a game and small dogs are nippy. I'd try a deep loud NO. Going through this with a 6 week old pup and it worked after only a couple of times.

When she nips and bites use Bitter Apple. Lift up one side of the lip and spray Bitter Apple. It's tastes bad and they don't like it. It'll teach her to stop nipping and biting. Also, the best thing you can do for your dog and your family is take it to obedience training. It helps for her to get the message that you, your husband and daughter are her leaders. You don't have to hit or yell. Good Luck!

Some small dogs are just really snappy because their just defending themselves. I would still continue with the no's and yelling at her. My Chihuahua is the same way. She will probably get better as she gets older.

DO NOT do the loud high pitched ouches....to a dog that is an excited playful noise. She thinks you like it!

Try a deep stern "NO"!
Also, put her in a kennel as soon as she does it.
Like a time-out..
