I love Lonely Planet... they are really funny and easy to reads with clear directions and good plans

There's also frommers or fodors if you want a traditional guide.. both are good and detailed and have like everything you could possibily need....

ther'es aslo specialized guides like depending what country your going to .. best to get like a really localized one that shows more then just tourist attractions

Try your local bookstore. There are excellent guides based on the locale. You have hundreds of pages dedicated to one particular location. An endless amount of resources!
