My sons keeps getting a rash that starts out like flea bites on his legs then spreads to rest of body. The bumps do NOT itch. He has gotten it three times now. The first time it only lasted three days, then 8 days, and now going on 8 days again. It doesn't seem to bother him at all. But he looks awful. Benadryl seemed to work the second time he had the bumps. I gave him only one dose and the bumps were gone overnight. No luck this time. I have tried Bendryl and applied hydrocortisone. It seems to be getting worse. I brought him to his peditrician. She believes it may be a food allergy. I am now keeping a diary of his diet. I am not sure if I believe it is a food allergy because I have been researching the common symptoms of a food allergy and it says an itchy rash. His rash does not itch at all. Please help!!!

I think I have narrowed it down to black olives believe it or not. He loves them on his pizza or just straight from the can. He had pizza today for lunch and not twenty minutes later he developed large red swollen spots on his feet and large red bumps on his thighs. I gave him benadryl and three hours later the rash had almost vanished. The only other thing he had today before lunch was his bowl of cereal. He has eaten Lucky Charms cereal for over a year now...know it is not that. Then he had some fruit juice treats by Gerber for a morning snack. I don't think it is the fruit treats but I am still being cautious of them and the olives. Most likely it is the olives though. They are fairly new to his diet.

there is a need for a more comprehensive medical, family and lifestyle history to pinpoint your son's allergy. there is a test called the scratch test wherein the doc specifically an allergologist doctor will scratch several things on the skin and it will determine food, medication and all allergies. it really helps for allergic persons. then he will give a maintainance medication that to take in case any allergic reaction will arise. :-) allergies could be dangerous but they are very manageable once you know what you are allergic too. :-) God bless you. your baby should get this test. it's usually available on with an allergologist doctor and in some hospitals too.

My mom gets that way when she eats plums, peaches and cherries. Also when eating almonds. Through research of my daughter's nut allergy,I read that there is a theory that plums and almonds are from the same botanical family. Perhaps the olives have something to do with the above. I would take your son to an allergist with the diary (smart idea) and have him tested for food allergies. When my daughter had a reaction to cashews, she had hives and was not itching them.

I have had this happen to me several times. Mine was caused by a bad allergic reaction. Some times a rash due to allergies do not itch. The only thing that helped me when I had them was a cortizone shot. Benadryl gave me absolutely no relief what so ever. And the more you rub them the worst they will get.

I would most definitly think food allergy. My son gets hives too that do not itch. Keep writing down what your child is eating. Find an allergist and get him tested.

Just because he is not itchy it doesn't mean it is not an allergy. Listen to your pediatritian. and keep writing everythin your son eats and drinks down. Does he swim in a pool or other body of water by any chance?

Sounds like your doing all you can do already...
Except try another Dr. or two for second opinions.
Good luck, I hope things get better soon.
