The person who walks you down the aisle does not have to be male. I actually think it would be touching to have your mother walk you down the aisle since she has played the role of both mother and father in your life now that your father is deceased. The person who gives you away should be someone who helped shape you be the person you are today and plays a special role in your life. Who better to give this honor to than your mother. I'm sure she would feel really honored and it will be such a special moment for the two of you.

My father died when I was 15 and that's been one of the hardest questions for me to answer myself. Then I got a great idea from my mom....When she and my step-father got married, she thought the idea of being given away was odd at her age, so she walked down the aisle by herself. The great thing was that when she walked into the church and started down the aisle, my step-father started walking toward her and they met in the middle and proceeded up the aisle together. It was so touching. Instead of her being "given away", he said he wanted them to walk together toward their future as husband and wife.

My father's alive, but when I walk down, I'm having my brother walk me to my son and my son to my husband. I was torn between my brother and my son and a friend suggested it this way..."From the first man in your life to the second man in your life to the last man in your life. My father and I were not particularly close, and these men mean the world to me! It's your day. Buck tradition for a minute and think about who really means the world to you. My favorite Aunt walked her daughter down, and they were so beautiful the audience cried. Congrats & Good Luck!!!

Most of the time it's the next male. Your father's brother, his father, or your brother. If none can do it, maybe a father -figure or some guy that's close to you.

You could choose anyone close to you that you want. I had no father to do it either, didn't want my older brother to do it, my mom wouldn't, and I didn't want to walk alone - which is an option for you. My man and I walked in together, and it was really nice. The bridesmaids and groomsmen walked before us in couples, too, and it was great for the girls who usually feel self-conscious walking alone.

Do you have an uncle you feel close to? Perhaps a family friend? Brother? Whoever you feel comfortable with. If your mother is living, she could do it-it's not unheard of, and in fact, it's become quite commonplace.

Whoever you want. It's open nowadays. I've seen moms do it and it's very sweet. A brother? An uncle? A close friend?
