So many people are recommending the pot not be used.
Anyone care to cite an actual source other than random opinion?
Thus far, the reasons given were:
1) rust could get in your water
Unless a person has hemochomatosis, intake of iron (the oxide of which is rust) from a rusty teapot isn't going to be a problem
2) tea is corrosive
Many people just use the teapot to boil water and brew in the cup. The tea won't be a contributing factor then. Although, this is probably the best reason if someone is brewing in the teapot since the rust might react with the chemicals in the tea to make extra-funky flavors.
3) the metal in the teapot might make you ill
As noted above, iron won't hurt most people. And any metal in the teapot should have been safe for consumption since it was in contact with the water, rusting or not.
4) "tetanus shot tea"
This was probably a joke, but tetanus is caused by a bacterium that loves anaerobic conditions. You really wouldn't have to worry about it when dealing with a pot of boiling water.

I'd recommend not doing so, the tea is on its own somewhat of a corrosive in a sense and the breakdown will continue to result in the metal deteriorating causing you to ingest more of the rust product. Overtime (if not already) the taste will be quite noticeable also...it's best to simply purchase a new one and everything will taste better and be better for you.
Besides, you don't know what the chemical breakdown of the pot is and if there is a metal/material that proves somewhat unstable, you could end up ill along the way.

No, I wouldn't use it if I were you. Here is a suggestion though. When you buy a new one. Get one that has a cover that comes off so you can wash and dry it after use. Drying it thoroughly will prevent rust from appearing again.

Yes it is! Your drinking water has iron and other mineral deposits and a little extra iron never hurt anyone.

Yep. That way you don't even need tea leaves since the water is already brown.
