I have read about a couple hundred versions, so, which is best for playing, and if possible, editing music/video. Thats all I would use it for, unless I could play games like Oblivion, then I would need to have good game support too.

Try UBUNTU. You can download it or order a CD at http://www.ubuntu.com. Then follow the WIKI Starter Guide after you have installed it.

I suggest you do a dual boot with your current Windows OS till you get accustomed to UBUNTU.
