I liked it in some ways. The unit seemed more like a family, tighter than any active duty unit I was in later. The leadership was proffessional but more relaxed, you didn't have a bunch of young buck sergeants trying to be hardasses to prove their manhood. There were some downsides. Drill can be at inconvienant times, and there are a whole lot of people that are showing up just for a (pretty small) paycheck. There are a lot more corners cut, and training oppurtunities are limited. That was my experience.

Go Guard. The national guard is the State militia. If you get deployed you'll be deployed as a unit so you'll be with the same group you drill with. In the Army reserve you could be the only person deployed out of your entire unit or your unit could be divided up and scattered out.

I am in the National Guard. I enjoy it. 2 deployments and I plan on 12 more years.
