This question has been asked several times on here. There are many reasons for it.

The first that comes to mind is that many people post questions about atheism in the R & S section. Should they let the religious speak for them? If the religious don't want atheists feedback, stop talking about something that interests them.

The second is that none of these categories are exclusive clubs. Anyone can answer any question in any category. If that's something that makes you unhappy or uncomfortable, consider another website.

The third . . . and I know this is an unpopular view, but by some definitions, atheism could be considered a religion. I'm not agreeing with it. I'm just talking the denotation of the word.

Because even though they aren't personally spiritual or religious, it does not mean that conversation on these topics should be closed to them. I mean, I can't tell you how many people I've seen post smart@ss comments in the "Parenting" section, and its pretty obvious that they aren't parents.

Also, religion is a fun thing to debate. Not all atheists that come to this forum look down on people of faith or insult them. I think its pretty interesting to learn about what other people believe and why, ESPECIALLY when their beliefs are different than mine -- and that's quite often.

1) Because some of us are spiritual...I've known three exceptionally spiritual people, two were atheists. The third is European Wiccan.
2) There's a lot of BS that gets passed around by religionists that they try to pass off as "fact". Someone has to set the record straight.
3) In a forum like this, the volume of your voice doesn't matter. The words of your argument do. So it's a good place to debate and not get shouted down.

Personally, a couple of reasons, First I want to try and ask questions that would stimulate religious people into questioning their beliefs so that they may be free of their religion.
Secondly, I like feeling amazed over and over again at how people can believe such crazy things with no grounds of evidence apart from a book written 2000 years ago and filled with contradictions (the bible specifically).
Finally atheism can indeed be spiritual but not in the way you believe it to be, I personally attempt to meditate to find myself, why I interact with people and for what reasons, it helps to strengthen my morals, which by the way are based upon empathy and altruism (for everyone who assumes that Atheists just make up morals as they go).

Yay Nicholas H!
BTW Trashy, I am an atheist and I am spiritual. Who are you to decide what atheists believe in? I come to the R&S section because I am a passionate debater on the topics.
So stick that in your God pipe and smoke it.

Atheism is in my mind a faith like any other...you have to have faith that there is no God just as you have to have faith that there is one. Atheists have no more evidence than anyone else. The only difference is they claim that a lack of evidence is still evidence.

And as far as I can tell, they are just as headstrong as everyone else, just as set in their beliefs.

Funnily enough atheism is spiritual. Atheism-doesn't believe in god. What if they're buddhist? still atheist I'd imagine
