You do not make a coat of arms. It is granted as an honour the right athority inc but not limted to Lord Lyon, College of Arms,Canadian Heraldic Authority and the Chief Helard of Ireland and the Heraldry Council (South Africa). You can however be granted the right to use a forebear arms or a grant in there name

you dont make up your own you will have one if you are of european decent, they are awarded only by the hearld of arms
there are strict rules about colour
try looking up your family's one first
