U.S. drug companies are still doing extensive research and development (R and D) of new drugs, which tends to be quite expensive. The money for the R and D (at least a large chunk of it) comes from the current sales of drugs that are on the market now. A lot of the meds from Canada are either generic or older brand name drugs that are less expensive to manufacture.

Because we don't have a shortage of doctors and need the drugs to wait in pain for months to see a specialist :)

Probably the dollar difference and Canadians don't sue as much.

because they have national health care and pharma companies know they are not going to profit like they do in the U.S. I remember reading an article pertaining to high drug prices and a pharma rep said something like this..."we charge high prices to u.s. customers because we know they are able to pay it." shocking??? it happens daily. the current administration put a stop to importing the same drugs because the pharma companies line the pockets of our politicians. it is sad to realize that seniors have to choose between eating and meds that could potentially save their lives. you would be fooling yourself if you thought pharma companies were in it for the health of the customer. case in point, there is a med for rls...restless leg syndrome what the hell is that???
