I have a black silkie and she is acting kind of hormonal. She just started laying, and every egg she lays she sits on it. all of my other hens don't sit on theres. So i was wondering if i buy fertalized eggs and put them in her nest box, will she sit on them and incubate them to where they hatch?

Yes, Silkies are excellent brooders. You should be sucessful. Once your silky girl starts sitting full time give her the eggs and she should happily incubate them for you. Silkies also make excellent mothers. Here are a few links to check out for further info. http://www.backyardpoultry.com/index.php

Just be sure that they all begin incubating on the same day. It takes 21 days for a chicken egg to hatch. If some hatch earlier than others she may leave the nest with the chicks and the remaining chicks will die in the shell.

A broody chicken (one that is determined to sit on eggs) will even hatch and care for ducks, geese, and pheasant if the eggs are put under her. It's actually a common practice to allow a broody chicken to hatch other eggs, so go for it. They will hatch, and depending on what type of egg (geese, pheasant, and other chickens do well raised with a chicken mother, while ducks do not) the chicken will raise them as her own.

Good luck.

yes she will sit on them. A silkie is a form of bantam chicken and they will sit on ANYTHING, even plastic easter eggs if you let them.
