&ts just a rate, so you can compare w/ another job, say that was done for, say $ 0.30 / sq/ft cheaper... & it looked as good, so next time you use that painter!!!
by the way it's about $ 1.50 / sq ft new construction - tract builder pricing, in & out for paint - labor & material

Painters don't charge by room size, because so much depends on how much preparation they have to do. They do their estimates based on how long they expect the job to take, plus how much the materials will cost. Other factors: how many windows and what type; how much trim; how many doors; all one color, or different colors for walls, trim, and ceiling (takes more time to paint clean edges between colors.)

In California where I live, you can pay an unskilled person $10 an hour, but a real painter with experience would be $25 to $45, normally.

Canada. Here, professional painters charge by the hour, not square footage. The rate is anywhere from 14 to 20 dollars per hour. If you get someone ready to charge by square footing and they encounter troubles, that makes their profit go down, which in turn makes them work faster and this begets bad painting jobs. I never use a painter that works by square footage. I have in the past and it always cause problems and bad job.s
