You're in the second trimester and it should be ok to take Tylenol in a moderate dose. But I would check with the OB/GYN and Dentist first to be safe. I don't know what is wrong with the tooth that's causing your pain or even what type of pain it is, and this may not stop it or even alleviate it. So why take a chance with the baby if there is a possibility that it's not going to do any good. If the tooth is just erupting and causing pain, better to just leave it alone or treat it with ice compresses and try to not take anything. If there is a possibility that it's abscessing due to decay, then you are going to have to see a dentist. It won't wait for the duration of the pregnancy and that is an active infection (not good for you or the baby) that would need to be treated with anitbiotics, and nothing over the counter will stop that pain. I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help, but under the circumstances it's best for you to consult your Dentist and your OB Doctor. Good luck and congrats on the new baby!

You should be able to take any type of medication that contains Tylenol. You just don't want to take anything with Advil.

Whenever we have a pregnant patient, we consult with their OB/GYN's and they always say that Vicodin is alright to give them. That is what I was given for a horrible earache when I was pregnant.

**** Dr. Feel Good: I don't know what kind of Dr you are, but you are dead wrong. A real Dr would not tell a woman that Tylenol is bad to take while pregnant, yet recommend Advil. Every single OB/GYN that I have ever dealt with in my 10 years working for a dentist (Who by the way has to study pharmacology in dental school, and who backs me up on this), I have never had a physician who said that Advil was safer than Tylenol.

Vicodin has acetaminophen in it, just as does Tylenol. Advil has ibuprophen in it. Acetaminophen is the safer of the two. Real nice to try to tell this woman that Advil is safer.

To the woman who asked: Honey, all I can tell you is if you are confussed with any of the answers you got here, ignore them all and ask your OB. I seriously doubt he will tell you that Advil is better to take during a pregnancy than Tylenol. Good luck.

I would call my doctor tylenol is all I know that you can take over the counter. Maybe your doctor will call you in something a little stronger that is safe for your baby don't listen to Dr. feelgood because advil is not a recommended drug to take during pregnancy.

Check with your pharmacy for an over the counter product like Ambesol (spelt incorrectly) or oil of cloves. If the pain doesn't subside, then you need to see your dentist.

Good luck.
