Kids usually start Kindergarten between ages 4-6. Most start at 5, but some more advanced kids start at age 4, and some kids who are behind start at age 6. It also depends on when in the year the child's birthday is, but, ultimately, the age to start Kindergarten is up to the parents.

You should check with the school he is to attend. Call the office and ask to speak with someone who knows the rules. My son is now in 1st grade. He did Preschool. The kids were ages 4-6. So, I assume they all were a year older when starting Kindergarten. He was 4 in Preschool, 5 in Kindergarten, and is 6 going into 1st grade. His birthday is in April. It's also possible your district likes to test kids on their readiness for school. I have heard of this but our district does not do it. Unless the child is very far behind.

5 years old.
But, you need to check with your school district of your city and see when is the cut-off day to enter a child for kindergarten. This is different from state to state even city to city.
The reason is, for example if the cut-off day is Dec. 5th, and your child can enter the school as long as he/she born before Dec. 5th, else any child born after Dec. 5th will enter the next school year term.

Kathy is right. The regulations can vary from sate to state. Just call the school that you are interested in and ask them what the policy is. If your child is the correct age then you can register him/her. You'll have to bring a birth certificate with you to prove the age.
